The Moments

I'm a lovely combination of energized, exhausted, empowered, informed, enlightened strengthened and sleepy. After watching my nephews for a week and a half, I launched into the week that I look forward to the absolute very most each year when life allows: Education Week. At my former college campus I join thousands of others and attend for 5 glorious days morning, noon, and night classes that range all over the spectrum of topics. It has been fantastic.

One of the millions of thoughts I've heard this week that has touched my heart was to enjoy the moments. I hope I can do better with this.

I was looking through my phone of pictures taken this past winter, and these are some moments I don't think ever made it to the blog.

When Cade fell in love with reading.

I couldn't wait for the day my child didn't want to do what I asked him because his nose was in a book. Cade had recently discovered The Magic Treehouse books and even though we were going to Pirate Island as a family to celebrate savannah's birthday, he walked through the parking lot with his nose in the book. I wanted Kyle to take a picture of this monumental event.  Cade looked up from his book for a quick second to smile. As a mother who loves books--- this was a moment I treasured deeply.

When she had hair.

Savannah is full of expressions and emotions. I actually wasn't here for these pictures, but I feel like I was in this moment thanks to Kyle for taking these pictures.

On Savannah's 4th birthday, Kyle took her to one of his favorite places and I think it's a sweet little tradition. He took her to a beauty school to have her nails painted and hair styled. That is, back when Savannah had hair to do. I think I already told the story of how Savannah inadvertently thinned out half the hair on her head while "combing out the tangles" with her fingers one night.  I look back at this picture and am happy she at least hair then to be styled. In time, in time.   Her faces crack me up.  I love this girl!

The thing that happened AFTER the restuarant...

As a family we went to Kyle's favorite restaurant: Macaroni Grill. I usually poo-poo his idea to go here because I think it's too noisy, but I knew better than to shoot him down on his special day. We actually went in the early evening/late afternoon so it wasn't noisy at all.  The kids have always seemed to turn eating spaghetti into an "event." See for yourself:

Now what I actually remember about this is Savannah got the stomach flu this evening...I cleaned up a lot of spaghetti that night.

Kyle hates dessert. Especially chocolate cake. Yes, I still love him for that because, after all, that leaves more cake for me, doesn't it?  The one type of cake Kyle does like is the funfetti with sprinkles cake. Turns out two of his brothers like this kind of cake, too. Pretty funny. Savannah and I enjoyed baking these   funfetti cupcakes together. Can you guess which one she put sprinkles on?

LOVE how much Savvy is enjoying the pampering at the beauty school! What a little diva! ;)

Also, if I'm not mistaken little Miss Ruby recently turned the big 1-year didn't she? Can't wait to hear what you did to celebrate. :) Hope all is going well for you and that you're enjoying the last remnants of summer!

If Gary hated dessert I would either be a lot thinner because nobody would encourage me to bake, or chubby from eating the entire stash of this and that. Hmmm . . . deep thoughts.

Savannah's faces are hilarious. So glad you enjoyed education week!
